In late 2013, the FIE changed the rule relating to age categories for Veteran fencers. The CFF Executive has discussed this matter and rather than introduce this change within a few months of a major CFF event, it has been agreed that , should there be consensus at the next CFF Congress (in Scotland), the age ruling will be changed to reflect the new FIE rule, to become effective for the following Veteran event, but not for the 2014 Commonwealth Veteran Championships.

The existing rule will be valid for the 2014 Commonwealth Veteran Championships: Individual events are open to all fencers who qualify under current Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) rules and are over 40 on the first day of the event.' NB: This applies equally to the other age-groups: 50+, 60+, 70+.
